FRA joins EU disability discussions
On 7 May, FRA attended the Cypriot Presidency High-Level Conference on Disability. The focus was on the inclusion of people with disabilities through supported decision-making.
The conference was opened by EU Equality Commissioner Hadja Lahbib, and considered the legislative and policy reforms necessary for abolishing guardianship and introducing supported decision-making frameworks. It also featured panels and discussions on transferable good practices between Member States.
On 8 May, FRA took part in the European Commission's Disability Platform, where the Commission presented the enhanced Strategy on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, putting forth commitments and initiatives for the second half of the 2021-2030 Strategy.
