On a recent Wednesday, a typical night turned into a rescue by security guards working the graveyard shift at the Northwest Water Reclamation Facility off McCormick Road in Northwest Orange County near Apopka.

In the early morning hours, just after 1 a.m., the quick-thinking actions of two security guards saved a man's life after he crashed his car into a tree, and the vehicle caught fire. Soon, a raging inferno engulfed the vehicle - just moments after the car's driver was pulled to safety by security guard Alejandro Aguilar.

Meanwhile, security guard Jacob Schaechter called 9-1-1 and responding firefighters and law enforcement took over the scene where the fire was quickly extinguished. There were no additional injuries in the single-car crash.

Orange County Utilities praised the lifesaving actions of the security guards who work for longtime partner Allied Universal Security, which keeps all the utility's critical infrastructure facilities safe 24-7, 365 days a year.

Their level-headed actions during the serious incident were heroic and, if they had not been at the scene, the results might not have been as positive.
