Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities Seeks Scholarship Applications and Award Nominations

The Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities (ACPD) has opened applications for the Gerry Bertier Scholarship, and nominations for the John Duty Collins III Outstanding Advocate for Persons with Disabilities Award and the Commitment to Disability Award, which is presented in conjunction with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.

Submit scholarship applications and award nominations by April 30.

How to Apply for the Gerry Bertier Scholarship

The Gerry Bertier merit-based scholarship is awarded each year to an Alexandria resident or student with a disability who plans to attend college, university, or a post-secondary program. The scholarship recipients receive up to $1,000 for tuition, room, board, supplies, or educational fees. Go to alexandriava.gov/ACPD to submit an application by April 30.

How to Nominate a Person or Business for an ACPD Award

John Duty Collins III Outstanding Advocate for Persons with Disabilities Award

The Collins Award recognizes an individual who advocates for and contributes to the promotion of equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in Alexandria. Visit alexandriava.gov/ACPD to submit a nomination for the Collins Award.

Commitment to Disability Award (in conjunction with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce)

The Commitment to Disability Award recognizes a business serving persons with disabilities in the Alexandria community. Visit thechamberalx.com to submit a nomination for the Commitment to Disability Award.

The scholarship and awards will be presented at a reception on June 30, 2026, at 5 p.m. The event will be held at the American Physical Therapy Association, 3030 Potomac Ave., Suite 100.
