The Savannah Bananas will play two sold-out baseball games at Kinnick Stadium on July 3 and 4, coinciding with a Big & Rich concert on July 3 in Coralville and the Iowa City Jazz Festival on July 3-5 in downtown Iowa City. For those traveling in or around Iowa City on those dates, be aware of increased traffic and potential parking challenges.
The Savannah Bananas games will start at 7 p.m. July 3 and 4 at Kinnick Stadium. Parking lots open at noon each day, and fans are encouraged to arrive early.
Fans attending the July 3 Savannah Bananas game are encouraged to use the First Avenue exit in Coralville after the game to avoid post-event traffic from the Big & Rich concert. Those attending the concert, which starts at 6:30 p.m. in Coralville's S.T. Morrison Park, are encouraged to access Interstate 80 by driving west on Highway 1 toward Coral Ridge Mall.
Iowa City Jazz Festival, which takes place in downtown Iowa City, will start at 5 p.m. on July 3 and 11 a.m. on July 4. Iowa City's fireworks show will begin at about 9:45 p.m. July 4. Fans attending the Savannah Bananas games or the events downtown should be aware there may be traffic congestion during those times.
More information on the Savannah Bananas games can be found at hawkeyesports.com.
Multiple downtown Iowa City streets will be closed from 6 a.m. Friday, July 3, until late night Sunday, July 5, for Iowa City Jazz Festival: Clinton Street from Jefferson Street to Washington Street and Iowa Avenue from Clinton Street to Dubuque Street. No public parking will be available on Dubuque Street from Jefferson Street to Iowa Avenue, but the street will be open to traffic.
"No parking" signs will be posted on the affected streets in advance, and vehicles that are not moved in time will be towed.
