Central West TIF Amendment Would Adjust District Boundaries

July 15, 2026

312.744.9267

The boundaries of the Central West Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district on the Near West Side would be amended under proposal introduced to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.

The amendment would remove 2,798 parcels from the district's eastern geography and add 55 parcels near the United Center, resulting in an approximately 5.4% decrease in district size.

As a result of the amendment, approximately $28 million in annual property tax revenues would be returned to governmental taxing districts, based on current tax levels.

The City's TIF program uses new property tax growth within designated districts to support public and private investments within their boundaries.
