By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
WHEREAS, military spouses play a crucial role in the readiness and well-being of the armed forces who protect our nation; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is home to more than 69,000 military spouses who are strong and resilient partners; and
WHEREAS, these military spouses are an integral foundation for our armed forces during deployments, reintegration, and resets on behalf of their families and their country; and
WHEREAS, military spouses face unique career challenges due to frequent relocations associated with military service, and the Commonwealth is committed to supporting military families through consistent services, including expedited occupational and professional licensure, as well as assistance with behavioral health, employment, and educational opportunities; and
WHEREAS, military spouses-wives, husbands, and partners-make meaningful contributions to their families, schools, communities, the Commonwealth, and the nation, despite the ongoing demands and extended absences associated with military service; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Virginia wish to recognize and honor military spouses, past and present, and pay tribute to the sacrifices they make for our Commonwealth; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize the day of May 8, 2026, as MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
