SENATOR MCCORMICK TO BRING PENNSYLVANIA UNITED STEELWORKERS VICE PRESIDENT JASON ZUGAI AS GUEST TO 2026 STATE OF THE UNION

WASHINGTON, February 24, 2026 - U.S. Senator Dave McCormick (R-Pennsylvania) today announced that he will bring Jason Zugai, former President and current Vice President of the United Steelworkers (Local 2227), as his guest to the 2026 State of the Union. This honor comes just months after the historic U.S. Steel-Nippon partnership was finalized in June 2025, a deal that strengthens Pennsylvania's steel industry and safeguards thousands of American jobs.

"Jason Zugai is a third-generation steelworker who embodies the heart of the Mon Valley and the proud tradition of American steel," said Senator McCormick. "The U.S. Steel-Nippon Agreement is a landmark achievement, ensuring that this iconic American company remains under U.S. leadership while protecting and creating thousands of Pennsylvania jobs. I'm honored to bring Jason as my guest to the State of the Union to highlight the incredible work of steel workers and showcase how President Trump's administration has championed strengthening American manufacturing."

Senator McCormick first met Jason Zugai during his campaign for U.S. Senate in 2024, where they discussed the critical importance of the U.S. Steel-Nippon deal for Pennsylvania workers. McCormick promised that once elected, his first meeting as U.S. Senator would be with Jason. Senator McCormick kept that promise, engaging closely with Jason and steel leaders to advocate for the $14 billion investment that now secures the future of U.S. Steel.

The U.S. Steel-Nippon agreement is a win for our economy, national security, and the hardworking people of Pennsylvania. Senator McCormick is proud to stand alongside President Trump in fulfilling their shared commitment to rebuild American manufacturing and deliver for U.S. workers.

Senator McCormick has consistently emphasized that one of his top priorities is preserving and expanding jobs in the Mon Valley while ensuring that U.S. Steel remains under American control. Bringing Jason Zugai to the State of the Union offers an opportunity to spotlight these efforts and celebrate the people driving Pennsylvania's steel revival.
