Unwrapping Franklin County’s History: The 1892 Cornerstone Capsule Celebration
Opening the 1892 Cornerstone Capsule
- When: Thursday, December 4, 2025, 3 to 6 p.m.
- Where: Franklin County Courthouse Lawn, 315 S. Main Street, Ottawa, KS

Join us as we take a step back in time! The 1892 time capsule will be opened shortly after 3 p.m. We'll see what was placed inside more than 130 years ago, then add a brand-new capsule to be opened 100 years from now. After the ceremony, everyone is invited inside the courthouse to view the items, enjoy refreshments, and share in the celebration.
Special Pre-Event Opportunity
Before the December celebration, the public is invited to watch as the 1892 courthouse cornerstone is removed to reach the time capsule inside.
- When: Tuesday, November 12, 2025, at 10 a.m.
- Where: Franklin County Courthouse Lawn, 315 S. Main Street, Ottawa, KS
There is no ceremony, but everyone is welcome to stop by and see this special piece of history being uncovered.
