WASHINGTON, D.C. - In case you missed it, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, slammed the Supreme Court's recent decision in the Louisiana v. Callais case, attacking the Voting Rights Act. In recent interviews, Booker has called out the decision stating, "The Court today ensures that it will be remembered as one of the most destructive and deeply irresponsible Courts in the history of our nation,"and "This isn't about left or right. It's not about Democrats or Republicans. It's about fair elections in America. This is a moral moment-what kind of nation will we be?"

Booker: "What the Supreme Court has now done is eviscerate the Voting Rights Act."
Booker: "We're already seeing Southern states openly discuss eliminating Black representation-drawing districts that disenfranchise African American voters and strip them of meaningful representation. I am here as a United States senator because of a movement that fought to end this kind of discrimination."
Booker: "This isn't about left or right. It's not about Democrats or Republicans. It's about fair elections in America. This is a moral moment-what kind of nation will we be?"
Booker: "We are now seeing a push toward a system where a party can suppress voting rights and hold onto power through anti-democratic means. This is no longer about which party is going to control power-this is now a movement election."

Booker: "I am a product of the Voting Rights Act-my very presence in Congress is because of it."
Booker: "What we're seeing now is a voting system that is less secure and increasingly vulnerable, with states already moving to redraw maps in ways that undermine fair elections."
Booker: "The Supreme Court has opened another pathway to rig elections and deny fair representation to people, including those in Louisiana."
Booker: "This is anti-democratic. It goes against the principles of our founding and basic fairness."

Supreme Court roils 2026 midterms with Voting Rights Act ruling
April 30, 2026
By: Alexander Bolton
Senators in both parties say the Supreme Court has roiled the political landscape ahead of the midterm elections by effectively striking down majority-minority House districts as unconstitutional racial gerrymanders.
Democrats vented their rage over a ruling they said would return the nation to the Jim Crow-era policies of the 1950s and early '60s, when Black citizens voted at far lower rates than today because of restrictions such as poll taxes and literacy tests.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) called the ruling "another evisceration of [Section] 2 of the Voting Rights Act."

"This is a real setback."
