$27 Million in Upgrades Coming to North Tulsa Parks; Chamberlain Park to Redesign City's Community Garden, Reimagine Food/Nutrition Space

Today, the City of Tulsa Parks, Culture and Recreation department celebrated the groundbreaking of the redesign and revitalization of Chamberlain and Berry Parks as it works to expand recreational access and support community health and wellbeing for Tulsa's youth and families.

"Chamberlain Park has long been an anchor in this community and today marks an exciting step toward its next chapter," Mayor Monroe Nichols said. "These improvements, along with the improvements at Berry Park, will offer new opportunities for residents of all ages to gather, play, learn, and stay active."

As part of a $5 Million investment from the voter-approved Improve Our Tulsa sales tax package and another $22 million investment from George Kaiser Family Foundation and 15 other partners, Chamberlain and Berry Parks will soon receive major upgrades.

At Chamberlain Park, a 15 acre renovation project will introduce a wide range of new amenities including:

  • New community center (Jane A. Malone Center)
  • New basketball pavilion
  • New playground
  • Tulsa Parks' first community garden
  • New picnic shelters
  • Nearly one mile of accessible trails
  • Infrastructure investments, including new parking and underground stormwater detention upgrades

"Our community needs this," District 1 City Councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper said. "We've been left behind for too long and I am proud to see the progress."

At the heart of the Chamberlain Park project is the new Jane A. Malone Center, a single-story facility designed to serve as a community hub for wellness, learning, and recreation. The center will include an atrium lobby, multipurpose classrooms for arts, ceramics, and food and nutrition, a fitness and weight room, a full-size gymnasium, and dedicated support spaces for staff and programming.

"It has been my honor to fight for this community," said Jane A. Malone, a community advocate for North Tulsa. "North Tulsans deserve every opportunity to gather and grow together."

At Berry Park, a 13-acre renovation project draws on inspiration from the cultural tradition of the North Tulsa "yard," creating a landscape for everyday use and community gatherings.

The park will feature:

  • A central lawn framed by two large pavilions
  • A 0.3 mile walking loop
  • Two new inclusive playgrounds for children of all ages, including one covered playground
  • Two water play features
  • New basketball courts
  • New covered picnic areas
  • Shaded seating areas
  • An above ground detention pond to support long term stormwater management

"GKFF's InvestNorth initiative is committed to transformational investment in north Tulsa neighborhoods because we know that where a child grows up shapes what is possible for their lives," said Senior Program Officer of George Kaiser Family Foundation Brandon Oldham. "No one should have to leave their neighborhood to live in a better one. Today, we plant something that makes that possible. These parks are more than amenities. They are a declaration that changing the conditions of a neighborhood changes outcomes for families. This groundbreaking is exactly what that commitment looks like in practice."

Across both projects, the City will plant new trees, significantly expanding shade and comfort while strengthening the ecological health of each site. Together, these projects represent a coordinated effort to expand high quality recreational spaces and support long term wellbeing in North Tulsa communities.

"Every Tulsan needs great places to play, run and enjoy classes and come together as a community," Tulsa Parks Director Anna America said. "Our parks are designed with that in mind and this will be a wonderful addition."

Construction at Chamberlain Park will begin shortly, with work at Berry Park continuing throughout the year. Improvements at Chamberlain Park are expected to be complete in late spring of 2027, including the new Jane A. Malone Center. During construction, the existing Jane A. Malone Center at Chamberlain Park will remain in place. When the new one is complete, the old center will be demolished.
