RALEIGH- Campbell Law School students have formed the Jewish Law Student Association (JLSA), Assistant Dean of Student Life, Pro Bono Opportunities and Belonging Regina Chavis '20 has announced.

During the past academic year, alumna Paige Segall '25 founded the JLSA at Campbell Law in response to rising antisemitism in the country, explained now JLSA President Sarah Gibbs '27. The JLSA a student-run organization found at many law schools that provides a community, cultural, social and religious resource for Jewish law students and their allies.

Gibbs and Treasurer Staci Esterman '27 say they plan to continue to carry the JLSA torch begun by Segall. JLSAs typically aim to connect students with Jewish alumni, offer networking opportunities, promote awareness of Jewish culture, and serve as a platform to address issues like antisemitism.

The purpose of JLSA is to create a "safe space for Jewish students and their allies to hang out, enjoy lox and bagels and host events that educate our peers on Judaism," Gibbs said.

Gibbs added the purpose of JLSA is important as her peers are likely to encounter Jewish people during their practice of law and having some knowledge about Judaism may be helpful in serving this population.

JLSA is planning its inaugural event, a Bagel Social, for October 2025, Gibbs added. This informal social meeting is open to all students and will play into JLSA's theme for the year: "Law, Lox and Lasting Friendships."

In Spring 2026, JLSA plans to partner with the Black Law Student Association (BLSA), LAMBDA Law Students Association and the Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA) to organize a panel called "Serving Diverse Populations," which will help shed light on important cultural differences presented in clients and how students when they become lawyers may better serve their clients, according to Gibbs.
