Fire Department Promotes Three Firefighters
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 6, 2026) - Three New Brunswick firefighters were promoted during a ceremony held at City Hall on Sept. 2. Mayor Jim Cahill and Fire Director Chris Stellatella presided over the promotions.
"Today, we celebrate the promotion of three members of our fire department who have demonstrated leadership, skill, and commitment throughout their careers deserving of today's promotion. These promotions are not merely titles; they are symbols of trust, responsibility, and leadership," Mayor Cahill said.
These promotions included:
- Michael Pilch, promoted to Deputy Chief, joined the fire department in 2006.
- Oneill Martinez, promoted to Captain, joined the fire department in 2014. He is the grandson of the City's first Hispanic firefighter, Epifanio "Freddie" Colon, who served from 1965 to 1991.
- Jorge L. Otero Jr., promoted to Lieutenant, has been with the fire department since 2013.
