Today, the European Commission has launched an EU-wide awareness raising campaign to tackle human trafficking. Around 10 000 people are identified as trafficking victims each year in the EU, with many more going unnoticed and unprotected. Victims include both citizens from EU countries and those from outside the EU, who are forced into sexual or labour exploitation, forced criminality or other forms of human trafficking.
The campaign "End Human Trafficking. Break the Invisible Chain" aims to shed light on this often invisible crime and to enable citizens and victims to recognise the signs, report a suspected case of human trafficking and get support.
