A Fairbanks workshop will train people to lead a popular exercise program for midlife and older adults in Alaska communities.

Led by Leslie Shallcross, a home, health and family development agent with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, the workshop will prepare participants to teach StrongPeople/StrongWomen exercise classes in nonprofit community settings.

StrongPeople/StrongWomen is a progressive strength-training program designed for midlife and older adults. It increases muscle strength and bone density, improves balance and prevents falls.

Trainees should have strength trained for at least four weeks prior to the leader course and must have the ability to obtain a CPR certification. They must attend an ongoing StrongPeople class at least twice after completing the training.

The class will be 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at 1000 University Ave., Room 108, Fairbanks.

The cost is $225. Registration is required via the online form, or visit https://bit.ly/StrongPeopleTraining.
