McClellan Announces Launch of 2026 Congressional Art Competition

Richmond, VA - Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04)announced the launch of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for high school students in Virginia's Fourth Congressional District.

Every spring, the Congressional Institute hosts the Congressional Art Competition, an annual nationwide, bipartisan program that cultivates artistic talent by challenging students to reflect on how they see and engage with the world through original artwork. The winning artist will have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, serving as a reminder that the People's House belongs to all of us, including the next generation of artists and leaders. They will also be invited to Washington, D.C. to meet with Congresswoman McClellan and attend the annual award ceremony.

"I am excited to invite all high school students in Virginia's Fourth District to participate in this competition," said Congresswoman McClellan."Virginia's Fourth District is home to a vibrant arts and cultural community, and this competition provides an opportunity to foster that creativity in the next generation. Art allows students to express who they are, how they see the world and the stories they want to tell. As we mark the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, this is also a chance for young people to reflect on where we have been and share their hopes for what comes next. I strongly encourage every high schooler in our district to showcase their perspective, skillset and imagination."

The competition is open to any high school student (grades 9-12) who lives in Virginia's Fourth Congressional District. Artwork must be original, two-dimensional and created solely by the participating student without assistance from AI. Congresswoman McClellan will convene a panel of local judges to help determine the 2026 winner.

The deadline to submit artwork to the Office of Congresswoman McClellan is Monday, April 20th, 2026 by 5:00 PM. Read the full rules and eligibility requirements for the 2026 competition in the U.S. House website.
