Rep. Kim Schofield Recognizes Georgia Severe Weather Preparedness Week

ATLANTA - State Representative Kim Schofield (D-Atlanta) recognizes Georgia Severe Weather Preparedness Week, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS) and statewide meteorologists at the Capitol on February 5, 2026, for their role in protecting lives through weather forecasting and emergency communications.

"The National Weather Service/NOAA, Georgia TV stations and their meteorology teams are more than broadcasters - they are frontline public safety partners," said Rep. Schofield. "When severe weather threatens our communities, Georgians turn to trusted voices who provide timely, accurate information that helps families make life-saving decisions. Their work saves lives."

Georgia Severe Weather Preparedness Week encourages residents, schools and businesses to prepare for dangerous weather events such as tornadoes, flash floods and severe thunderstorms. Rep. Schofield emphasizes the importance of public education and reliable communication as core components of emergency preparedness.

"Preparedness begins with awareness," added Rep. Schofield. "Our local stations ensure that every household-regardless of zip code-has access to the information they need to stay safe."

Rep. Schofield recognizes the stations' public service commitment, community outreach and partnerships with emergency management agencies across the state.

"This acknowledgment is about gratitude and responsibility," said Rep. Schofield. "We thank these teams for their service and reaffirm our commitment as lawmakers to support preparedness, resilience and public safety for every Georgian."

Representative Kim Schofield represents the citizens of District 63, which includes a portion of Fulton County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2017 and currently serves as Secretary of the Urban Affairs Committee. She also serves on the Creative Arts & Entertainment, Health, Industry and Labor and Small Business Development committees.
