Jon Burns Re-Elected as Georgia’s Speaker of the House

ATLANTA - Today, Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) was re-elected by his colleagues in the Georgia House of Representatives to continue his service as Speaker of the House for the 2025-2026 legislative session. Burns has served as Speaker since 2023 and is Georgia's 75th Speaker of the House.

"I am incredibly grateful to my colleagues in the House for their continued trust and confidence," said Speaker Jon Burns. "Over the last two years, we have worked together to pass meaningful measures that have lowered taxes, brought historic opportunities to our state, supported our families and businesses, and driven Georgia forward. We will continue to prioritize policies that uplift every Georgian, and continue to make our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family."

The Speaker of the House of Representatives serves as the presiding officer of the legislative body. He is responsible for determining the leadership and membership of House committees. While the House is in session, the Speaker is charged with assigning legislation to committees, calling legislation for debate and enforcing the rules of the House.

Speaker Burns represents Georgia's 159th House District which includes Screven County, as well as portions of Bulloch and Effingham counties. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2004.
