PANGKALPINANG -- Commission VI of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) conducted a specific visit to PT TIMAH Tbk to discuss the company's operational performance and mine revitalization programs in Pangkalpinang on Thursday (February 12, 2026).
The visit, led by Deputy Chairman of Commission VI DPR RI Nurdin Halid, was welcomed by the President Director of PT TIMAH Tbk, Restu Widiyantoro, the Director of Production and Commercial PT TIMAH Tbk, Ilhamsyah Mahendra, and the Director of Operations PT TIMAH Tbk, Handy Geniardi.
Members of Commission VI DPR RI visited PT TIMAH Tbk's onshore mining areas in the Tanjung Gunung area and Central Bangka Regency. They held discussions and provided several recommendations regarding the company's operations. The delegation also visited the company's head office.
Deputy Chairman of Commission VI DPR RI Nurdin Halid stated that the specific visit was a follow-up to a previous hearing meeting with PT TIMAH Tbk.
"We want to see the development and performance of PT TIMAH Tbk, because the company's revitalization is not only about corporate strategy and technical matters, but also about professional responsibility related to the management of natural resources. Currently, there has been extraordinary progress," he said.
He noted that last year PT TIMAH Tbk controlled only 20 percent of the Mining Business Permit (IUP) areas in its mining management, but this has now increased to 50 percent.
"These recommended efforts have been implemented very well by PT TIMAH Tbk. We give our highest appreciation," he said.
During the visit, Commission VI DPR RI recommended that PT TIMAH Tbk conduct its own mining activities while involving local communities as beneficiaries of the company's presence in the region.
Second, illegal miners should be formalized through cooperative structures.
"In this way, these illegal miners, who are local residents living around PT TIMAH Tbk's IUP areas, can benefit and improve their welfare through the company's presence," he said.
The commission also encouraged PT TIMAH Tbk to carry out further exploration to increase tin resources and reserves.
"We encourage PT TIMAH Tbk to adopt modern mining practices. Through modernization and improved mining methods, the company's added value will continue to grow and increase," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Production and Commercial of PT TIMAH Tbk, Ilhamsyah Mahendra, stated that the company welcomed the visit from Commission VI DPR RI and would follow up on the various recommendations provided.
"Several points were discussed, including operational safety, post-mining responsibilities, and community involvement in the mining system, as tin mining is closely connected with local communities," he said.
In addition, Commission VI DPR RI also emphasized the development of rare earth elements (REE), which aligns with the President's directives. PT TIMAH Tbk will coordinate with Perminas, the Mineral Industry Agency (BIM), and Danantara regarding the development of REE. (*)
