Cornell Cooperative Extension's (CCE) Adam Hughes, MPH, has been appointed to a national-level leadership position with the Extension Foundation, where he will support national Cooperative Extension health and well-being initiatives. Hughes, a state extension specialist at CCE, will play a key role in implementing the National Framework for Health and Well-Being. Under his new appointment, which began March 1, 2025, Hughes will serve as the primary liaison for health and well-being efforts within the Cooperative Extension system. He will work with the National Health Leadership Committee (HLC), promote innovative practices from across the United States, coordinate efforts among Land-grant institutions, and represent the system in national conversations about health equity.
"Cornell Cooperative Extension has a long history of expanding and evolving our approaches in innovative ways as the world changes," CCE Director Andy Turner said. "Adam has been deeply engaged in the work leading up to the adoption of the National Framework for Health and Well-Being, and he will bring his depth of experience and excitement for the work to the next phase of this effort."
Hughes has over 20 years of experience across the nonprofit, government, and higher education sectors. He has helped build collaborative networks, advanced community health through strategic program development, and championed health equity initiatives. In addition to his role at CCE, he serves in leadership positions with the Cornell Center for Health Equity and the Rural Health Network of South-Central New York.
The Extension Foundation's CEO, Beverly Coberly, said Hughes is an ideal fit for the role.
"Adam Hughes has a deep commitment to community health and a proven track record of leadership," Coberly said. "We are thrilled to have someone with his experience and integrity advancing the health and well-being priorities of the Cooperative Extension System."
