DCHA Says Farewell to the 2025 Summer Interns!

The DC Housing Authority (DCHA) extends its appreciation to the 52 interns who participated in the 2025 Marion S. Barry Jr. Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP).

Over the course of six weeks, these interns contributed to a variety of DCHA departments while developing professional skills and exploring potential career pathways.

As part of the program, interns engaged in "Future Fridays," a series of professional development activities designed to prepare participants for academic, personal, and professional success. This year's highlights included a surprise question-and-answer session with retired Washington Commanders defensive back and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Darrell Green. During his remarks, Green emphasized the importance of resiliency, life skills, and mutual respect.

Interns also participated in a first aid and CPR certification course and toured the University of Maryland, where they learned about higher education and post-graduation opportunities.

The program concluded with a luncheon hosted by DCHA's Office of Resident Services. During the event, interns expressed gratitude to their supervisors through written notes and reflected on their experiences by setting future career goals.

MBSYEP, administered by the D.C. Department of Employment Services (DOES), has operated for 46 years and remains one of the nation's longest-running youth employment initiatives. The program provides District youth ages 14 to 24 with meaningful work experiences across the public and private sectors, with a focus on leadership development, workforce readiness, and civic engagement.

DCHA is proud to continue its partnership with MBSYEP. By investing in District youth, the agency reaffirms its commitment to supporting workforce development and strengthening the communities it serves.
