On November 27, 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Liu Yantao paid a farewell call on Mr. Charalambos Prountzos, Mayor of Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus.

Ambassador Liu expressed his gratitude to Mayor Prountzos and the city of Nicosia for their long-standing support for China-Cyprus exchanges and cooperation. He noted that local-level cooperation is an important component of China-Cyprus relations, and China stands ready to further strengthen collaboration with Nicosia under the framework of the China-Cyprus Sister City Alliance, so as to inject new momentum into the development of the China-Cyprus strategic partnership.

Mayor Prountzos commended Ambassador Liu's work during his tenure, expressing admiration for China's achievements in high-quality development. He affirmed that Nicosia will continue to actively participate in the activities under the China-Cyprus Sister City Alliance, deepen all-round exchanges and cooperation with Chinese cities, work for new outcomes in local cooperation, and contribute to the development of Cyprus-China and EU-China relations.
