WARREN - Rep. Kathy L. Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest) announced Warren, Forest and Crawford counties will receive a combined $176,000 in impact fees from the natural gas industry. In addition, the municipalities in the 65th Legislative District will receive an additional $46,000.
Impact fees are levied in addition to regular business taxes paid by every corporation in Pennsylvania. The disbursements were established in 2012 to ensure communities affected by drilling receive their fair share of funding for projects such as road and bridge repairs, housing and other infrastructure needs.
"These impact fees allow us to benefit from energy development while also taking responsible steps to address its impacts," Rapp said. "They help keep taxes lower for residents, strengthen local services and invest in long-term community well being. That balance of economic opportunity and local responsibility benefits everyone."
A complete list of disbursements to counties and municipalities is available on the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission's website at puc.state.pa.us.
