FEFAC attended the 19th International Feed Regulators Meeting

On 30-31 July 2026, FEFAC, represented by its President, Nicolas Coudry-Mesny, and Rodrigo Nascimento, took part in the 19th International Feed Regulators Meeting (IFRM), held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil. Jointly organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF), the meeting brought together more than 80 participants from over 25 countries, including feed regulators, government representatives, industry experts and international organisations.

For FEFAC, participation in the meeting offered an opportunity to contribute the European feed industry's perspective to discussions on evolving regulatory frameworks and common global challenges. The programme addressed international feed regulatory developments, Codex Alimentarius activities, digital and electronic labelling solutions, and progress under the International Cooperation for Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF).

A central focus of the discussions was the contribution of animal nutrition to animal health and welfare, including its role in reducing the need for antimicrobial use. Participants also explored the safe production and use of circular feed sources, recognising their potential contribution to more resilient and resource-efficient food systems. These priorities closely reflect the European feed sector's ongoing work to support sustainable livestock value chains through innovation, safety and science-based policymaking.

Constance Cullman, chair of IFIF, said: "For nearly two decades, the IFRM has served as the world's premier forum where feed regulators and the global feed sector come together to exchange experiences, build trust and advance practical solutions to shared challenges. This year's discussions on regulatory convergence, nutritional innovation and circular feed systems once again underscored that international collaboration is essential to advancing innovation, ensuring feed safety and supporting resilient, sustainable animal agriculture."

Daniela Battaglia, FAO livestock production officer, said: "The International Feed Regulators Meeting continues to demonstrate the value of constructive dialogue between governments, international organisations and the feed industry. Working together allows us to share knowledge, strengthen regulatory approaches and support safe, sustainable and resilient livestock production systems that contribute to food security and One Health."

The meeting's interactive World Café sessions enabled regulators and industry representatives to exchange practical experiences and identify areas for further cooperation. Discussions also covered regulatory developments across Latin America, Africa, Europe and North America, highlighting the importance of international dialogue in addressing increasingly interconnected feed and food-system challenges.

FEFAC welcomes the continued collaboration between FAO, IFIF, regulators and feed-sector stakeholders. Strengthening international regulatory cooperation, promoting proportionate and science-based approaches, and enabling innovation are essential to maintaining safe, sustainable and resilient feed and food systems.
