On February 13th, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia held the 2026 Chinese New Year Reception. More than 300 people attended the reception, including Hon. Mr. Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other dignitaries and people from all walks of life, and representatives of Chinese enterprises, institutions and overseas Chinese in Liberia.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Yin Chengwu reviewed the achievements of Chinese economic and social development and China-Liberia relations in 2025 and introduced Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Africa in 2026. He expressed that the year 2026 is the 70th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, as well as "the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges". China is willing to work with Liberia to actively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen people-to-people exchanges between China and Liberia and join hands to create an even better future.
On behalf of Liberia, Hon. Jeremiah Kpan Koung extended new year wishes to the Chinese government and people. He spoke highly of China's development achievements, expressed gratitude for China's contributions to Liberia's economic and social development, and looked forward to further strengthening practical cooperation between Liberia and China.
The atmosphere was warm and friendly, and the guests toasted to the Chinese New Year. Chinese Martial arts, songs and dance performances won rounds of applause.
