Times Wins O.P.C. Award

The Overseas Press Club has named The Times its winner of the William Worthy Award, which recognizes the best interpretation of international affairs, for its coverage of drone warfare in Ukraine.



Journalists for the International desk, Visual Investigations and the Magazine showed how the war between Ukraine and Russia has become a lethal laboratory for the future of warfare, producing the definitive account of humankind's terrifying lurch toward remotecombat, most of all through cheap but very deadly drones.



"The war in Ukraine has changed so drastically, and it became deadlier than ever," said Phil Pan, International editor. "What began as a 20th century-style conflict shifted to a war in which drones were killing more people than conventional weapons. The very nature of warfare was changing before our eyes, and as an institution we had to document that."
