Andrews Federal showcased its commitment to financial education and female empowerment by hosting the Invest in Girls panel discussion. The program was conducted through the Maryland Council on Economic Education and was designed to provide girls guidance on finances and on financial careers. Because women have been historically underrepresented in financial careers, the Invest in Girls events focus on giving young women examples and role models in the financial industry.
During the event, a group of high school girls met with financial leaders and heard about their careers and opportunities to work in finance. Five women leaders from across the credit union participated as part of a 10-member panel, sharing their experiences, the paths they took to achieve career success, and their advice for young women seeking to follow in their footsteps.
Panel participants from the credit union represented a wide range of career paths in finance. They included Kristal Travis (Senior Director, Human Resources), Olga Aragona (Director of Mortgage Servicing), Amani McAllister (Internal Auditor), Riza Walker (Assistant Branch Manager/Loan Officer) and Jeania Bagley (Lending Underwriting Trainer).
According to Andrews Federal Credit Union leadership, sponsoring and supporting the Invest in Girls event underscored the credit union's commitment to inclusion and to creating a strong, diverse workforce. "Our credit union remains strong because of our commitment to recruiting, cultivating and retaining a diverse workforce," said Chief Operating Officer Damita Robinson. "As a woman who built her career in finance, I know the importance and value of seeing women in financial positions of leadership. We are proud to have many women in positions of leadership at our credit union and to give them this opportunity to share their skills and strengths with the next generation of strong female leaders."
