Merced County

Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 And State Routes 99, & 140

Merced County- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 99 (SR-99) and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

Interstate 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through October 31, 2024.
    • ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

State Route 99

  • One-way traffic control on the Franklin Road Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 22, through Friday, September 27, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control on the Childs Avenue Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 22, through Friday, September 27, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full off-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 22, through Monday, September 23, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at R Street Under-Crossing for bridge work beginning Monday, September 23, through Friday, September 27, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

State Route 140

  • Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
  • Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, at 6:00 a.m. through Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
