This year's state contests will take place at the Crowne Plaza Springfield on Monday, April 27 for the senior division and Monday, May 4 for juniors.
Volunteer judges will review student projects, including exhibits, documentaries, performances, websites and research papers, and then provide feedback to participants. Selected projects will qualify to compete at the national contest in College Park, Maryland.
"Judges do not need to be historians. Anyone interested in supporting student research and learning is welcome to volunteer. Educators, historians, community members and professionals from all backgrounds are encouraged to participate," said Laura Mitchelle, state coordinator for Illinois History Day. "Serving as a judge is a rewarding way to support student scholarship and help the next generation of historians."
"The Illinois State Museum is proud to host the program," said ISM Director Jenn Edginton. "Illinois History Day is a great opportunity for young historians to learn new skills, and the program reflects the museum's commitment to education and public history across the state."
Illinois History Day is a program of the Illinois State Museum and is affiliated with National History Day, a nationwide program that engages students in historical research, interpretation and creative presentation.
