CANYON, Texas - Deadline is April 30 to register for the West Texas A&M University Alumni Association's annual FORE County Golf Scramble.
Cost is $600 per four-person team, and various sponsorship levels also are available. Register here: wtamu.schoolauction.net/forecounty26.
The tournament-to be held May 7 at the John Pitman Municipal Golf Course, 400 S. Main St. in Hereford-raises funds for scholarships to support WT students from Castro, Deaf Smith, Oldham and Parmer counties.
"Over the past 20-plus years, this tournament has raised thousands of dollars for students from these rural Panhandle counties," said Ronnie Hall, executive director of the WT Alumni Association. "We welcome all forms of support from our neighbors in the western Texas Panhandle, including team registrations and sponsorships, direct donations to the scholarship fund and items for our door prize drawing."
Hall said the alumni association hopes to raise at least $6,000 at the tournament.
Since its inception, money raised at the tournament has provided $96,000 in scholarships for WT students.
Check-in will begin at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided by Cargill.
Shotgun start is 1 p.m. Scorecards must be turned in at 5 p.m., followed by dinner provided by Whiteface Ford.
Recruiting, retaining and rewarding the best students is a key mission of the University's long-range plan, WT 125: From the Panhandle to the World.
That plan is fueled by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign, which reached its initial $125 million goal 18 months after publicly launching in September 2021. The campaign, which is now winding down, has raised more than $175 million.
