Sen. Rick Scott Kicks off Statewide Hurricane Preparedness Tour at National Hurricane Center in Miami

MIAMI, Fla. - Today, U.S. Senator Rick Scott joined Dr. Michael Brennan, Director of the National Hurricane Center, Rep. Carlos Gimenez, and other state and local leaders in Miami from FEMA, Red Cross, the sheriff and fire departments, and the Department of Emergency Management for a press conference to kick off Sen. Scott's annual Hurricane Preparedness Tour across Florida.

Senator Rick Scott said, "Hurricane Season is almost here, and the time to prepare is today-not tomorrow, not next week. It only takes one storm, and having your disaster plans set and preparedness kits stocked will save lives. I am asking every Florida family to get ready, be alert, and help your neighbors. You can rebuild homes, but you can't rebuild your life. Do everything you can do right now to be prepared, and as your Senator, I will do my part to keep Florida families safe."

Florida families can visit www.rickscott.senate.gov/hurricane-preparedness to make a preparedness plan and find helpful resources to keep their families safe.

On the federal level, Senator Scott continues to work to help Floridians prepare for and recover from any potential weather events.

Last month, Sen. Scott's bipartisan Doug LaMalfa Federal Disaster Tax Relief Certainty Act unanimously passed the House and Sen. Scott is leading the way to get the legislation passed in the Senate. The bill would provide families with critical certainty and long-overdue tax relief after natural disasters, ensuring victims can access relief quickly so they can focus on rebuilding their lives.

Last Congress, he was proud to secure passage of his Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act to provide tax relief to communities across Florida affected by disasters, including Hurricanes Helene, Debby, Milton, Ian, Nicole, Fiona, and Idalia, as well as his FISHES Act to support Florida's fisheries recovering from storms by improving the federal regulatory processes for fishery disaster relief and expediting these funds.
