On 26 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the open debate of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on "Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centered International System" under the agenda item "Maintenance of international peace and security" at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, chaired by H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the capacity of China's Presidency of the Council for the month of May 2026.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered a statement underscoring the fundamental importance of upholding the UN-centered international system to safeguard the rules, norms, and principles mutually accepted by Member States. Over the past 80 years since its inception, the United Nations has served as the bedrock of international relations.

In this regard, Thailand, as a trusted partner and a responsible member of the United Nations, stands ready to work closely with the international community to strengthen the UN-centered international system through three key approaches: (1) fostering collective responsibility; (2) advancing the reform of the United Nations, including the United Nations Security Council; and (3) promoting regionalism and mini-lateral cooperation that complement the United Nations system.

In closing, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs responded to the statement made by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia on Thailand - Cambodia relations. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that Thailand remains fully committed to the ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia and to advancing beyond the ceasefire towards sustainable peace, while stressing that Thailand does not seek any claim on the territory of any country.
