Management Raised The Bar For Agilent Stock; Does The Chart Agree

Agilent Technologies (A) raised its fiscal 2026 forecast on August 26, 2026, and the stock has gained 13.9% since the close prior to that release, while the S&P 500 was flat. Because a forecast is a management estimate rather than a final result, the chart indicates whether buyers have continued to support that outlook. So is Agilent's share price rising on a steady trend, or on one jump at the release?

Agilent Stock Has Kept Climbing Since The Raise

The trend remains steady so far. Agilent shares closed at $175.96 on October 26, 2026, sitting above their 50-day average of $161.80, which is the average closing price over the last 50 trading days. That 50-day mark also exceeds the 200-day average of $135.03, the average over the last 200 trading days, leaving the trend intact across both timeframes.

Most of this gain materialized after the initial release rather than at it. During the two trading sessions from August 25 to August 27, which priced in the third-quarter results alongside the new forecast, the stock rose 1.9% compared to 0.7% for the S&P 500. Agilent then added another 11.8% from August 27 to October 26, while the index slipped 0.7%.

What Exactly Did Agilent Management Raise?

Management raised the outlook slightly for sales and somewhat more for earnings. Agilent now guides fiscal 2026 revenue at $7.49 billion to $7.51 billion, up from a prior target of $7.44 billion on May 27. On a core basis, which management defines as organic growth at constant currency, this represents growth of 5.8% to 6%, pushing the midpoint 65 basis points higher than before.

The latest release placed non-GAAP earnings per share for the year at $6.18 to $6.21, rising 2.4% above the May forecast. Excluding a benefit from tariff refunds, management set that range at $6.12 to $6.15 on the call, marking an increase of $0.09 at the midpoint.

Management credited the upward revision to an excellent third quarter and continuously improving end markets. Sales to pharma customers, for instance, grew 12% in that quarter.

What Agilent Still Has To Deliver

As Agilent's fiscal fourth quarter nears its end, management guided in August to slower growth for the period. The company expects fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $1.98 billion to $2.00 billion, translating to core growth of 5.2% to 6.2%, against 7.3% in the third quarter. Inside the quarter, management projects flattish growth at the advanced therapeutics division, which faces a comparison of more than 40% growth a year earlier.

Looking beyond fiscal 2026, management pointed toward new capacity and new orders. The new Train C facility, part of the contract manufacturing Agilent handles for drug makers, is scheduled to start producing revenue next spring. Management said purchase orders already account for 75% of the capacity that business will have available in fiscal 2027. Agilent also won reshoring orders from 5 of the top 10 pharma companies in the world in the third quarter, with management expecting revenue from these contracts to build in fiscal 2027 and beyond. Those sales remain ahead, yet the stock already trades at 34.5 times Agilent's reported earnings over the last twelve months, compared to 22.9 times for the S&P 500.

For now, the guidance raise and the stock chart point in the same direction. A fourth quarter that meets the guided range, combined with Train C and the reshoring orders converting into sales, could push the stock higher. A quarter that falls short, or the shares slipping back below their 50-day average, could end that run. Fourth-quarter revenue against management's raised range is the number to watch when Agilent reports in November 2026.

How To Act On A?

Not necessarily on Agilent Technologies alone, if your goal is long-term wealth. Wealth is built by owning the companies that keep outperforming, the leaders of their industries, wherever they are. Agilent Technologies is one. Over the five years to October 2026, its stock rose 15.3%, ahead of 95 of the 106 other companies in Life Sciences Tools & Services, where the typical company fell 67%.

Finding companies like these takes comparison across industries and sectors, and that is what the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio does. It holds 30 quality companies in equal weight and, since its inception in September 2020, has returned more than 105%, ahead of a benchmark that combines the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap and Russell 2000. See how we find the leaders.
