City of Hoboken seeks artist for future public art at 800 Monroe Resiliency Park

The City of Hoboken and Hoboken Arts Advisory Committee invite artists who specialize in outdoor public art to submit proposals for a new sculpture at the future 800 Monroe Resiliency Park.

Artists are asked to submit engaging public artwork that helps tell the story of Hoboken, including its industrial past, environmental context, and commitment to resiliency, while being interactive, tactile, or climbable.

"Public art has the power to tell the story of a place while creating meaningful spaces for people to come together, explore, and connect," said Mayor Emily B. Jabbour. "At 800 Monroe Resiliency Park, we have an opportunity to bring together Hoboken's history, our commitment to resiliency, and our vibrant arts community in a way that residents and visitors can experience. I look forward to seeing the creative ideas artists bring forward for this important new public space."

The 800 Monroe Resiliency Park, which was designed using public feedback, will also include tennis courts, lawns, gardens, and more. The completed park will serve as Hoboken's fourth resiliency park and have the capacity to collect stormwater during significant rainfall events to help mitigate area flooding.

By Monday, Nov. 30, qualified artists must submit a letter of interest, examples of previous work, provide concept sketches, and an anticipated budget for the interactive public art piece that would fit in an area that is approximately 42 feet by 25 feet.

Questions or concerns regarding the opportunity may be directed to [email protected].

Once selected and reviewed by the community and Hoboken City Council at a public hearing, the City will fund the project through the Hoboken Public Art Fund.
