Nevada Got 40 Percent Less In Federal Home Loans as Trump Administration Let $230 Million Expire
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration's decision to let over $230 million in federal funding for housing in rural areas expire. The Trump Administration has failed to distribute nearly half of the $1 billion Congress allocated for the Single Family Housing Direct Home Loans Program during a housing affordability crisis, and much of that money will now no longer be able to be used next year. The critical program helps thousands of low- and very-low-income Americans in rural areas get the financing they need to afford a home. Nevada saw a more than $2.3 million decrease in federal loan investment as a result of the Administration's actions, a 40 percent decline compared to a typical year.
"While housing prices continue to go through the roof and hard-working Nevadans are struggling to afford a home, the Trump Administration has refused to take meaningful action to address the worsening housing crisis," said Senator Rosen. "By letting hundreds of millions in federal funds already allocated by Congress go unused, Trump is proving that he does not care about our rural communities and would rather let this money expire than help the families who need it most to afford a place to live."
Senator Rosen has fought to address the housing crisis in Nevada and has secured millions in federal funding for various housing projects across the state. This year, Senator Rosen helped pass the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, the largest housing package in decades, which will increase the supply of housing and bring down housing costs. In September, she helped secure almost $5 million in federal funding for Tribal housing. Senator Rosen also successfully pushed the Trump Administration to release more than $3.3 million in funding for affordable housing projects across Nevada.
