Jakarta, 16 July 2026: The Government of India has appointed Professor Indranil Sen Gupta as India's representative on the Governing Board of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
Professor Sen Gupta currently serves as Professor of Practice in Economics at Shiv Nadar University. A distinguished economist with nearly 3 decades of experience in economic research and financial markets, he most recently served as Managing Director and Head of India Research at CLSA. He has developed extensive expertise in macroeconomic analysis, monetary economics, financial markets, and public policy.
Throughout his career, Professor Sen Gupta has played an active role in economic research and policy dialogue, making significant contributions to India's monetary and financial policy. He has served as Chair of the Reserve Bank of India's Consultative Committee on the Banking Services Price Index and as a member of the Government of India's Working Group on the Revision of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI).
His work has involved close engagement with governments, financial institutions, international organisations, academia, and the private sector. He has also been consistently recognised as one of India's leading economists in international investor surveys.
Professor Sen Gupta's extensive experience in macroeconomic research, monetary policy, and financial markets will strengthen ERIA's strategic research and policy dialogue. His appointment is expected to further enhance co-operation between India and ERIA in advancing regional economic integration, sustainable development, and evidence-based policymaking across ASEAN and East Asia.
Professor Sen Gupta holds a Master's degree in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
The ERIA Governing Board is the Institute's highest decision-making body. It comprises the Secretary-General of ASEAN and representatives from ERIA's 17 Member States.
