DATE: October 1, 2026

CASE: Vicente Jose Perez (Case #24FE017872)

PROSECUTOR: Deputy District Attorney Frances Cobarrubio, Major Crimes Unit

On September 30, 2026, Vicente Jose Perez was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder and hit-and-run causing death.

On October 12, 2024, Vicente Perez was driving his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol when he struck and killed bicyclist, Jordan Rodriguez. Perez then fled the scene, lost control of his vehicle and ended up in a ditch. Perez did not call police to report the crash. Law enforcement located the suspect vehicle with significant damage and human biological matter located on the driver side, roof and trunk of the vehicle. Officers made contact with Perez and observed signs of intoxication, including the odor of alcohol emitting from his person, red and watery eyes and slurred speech. Perez performed poorly on Field Sobriety Tests and blew a .140 and.135 into the Preliminary Alcohol Screening device. His blood draw yielded a .142% Blood Alcohol Level along with THC. Perez had previously been convicted of DUI and had attended a Mothers Against Drunk Driving Victim Impact Panel where he was advised of the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence.

Perez faces a maximum potential sentence of 19 years to life in prison. Sentencing is set for October 23, 2026, at 11AM in Department 13B before the Honorable Helena Gweon.
