Santa Fe Recognizes Disability Employment Awareness Month

The City of Santa Fe has proclaimed October 2026 as Disability Employment Awareness Month, recognizing the contributions of workers with disabilities and reaffirming the City's commitment to expanding opportunity in the workforce.

October marks the 81st anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This year's theme, "Celebrating Value and Talent," highlights the skills, experience and contributions people with disabilities bring to workplaces and communities.

"Every person deserves the opportunity to put their talents to work, build a career and contribute to the community they call home," said Mayor Michael J. Garcia. "When we remove barriers and open doors, we do more than create opportunity for individuals - we strengthen our workplaces, our economy and our entire community. Santa Fe is at its best when everyone has a chance to contribute and succeed."

New Mexicans with disabilities represent an important source of talent and skills for employers across the state. Inclusive workplaces can help businesses attract and retain skilled, dedicated workers while strengthening our communities.

Throughout October, the City joins local, county and state agencies and community organizations in recognizing the value of workers with disabilities and promoting greater access to employment opportunities.

The New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, which has an office in Santa Fe, assists individuals with disabilities in pursuing their employment goals and connecting with opportunities in the workforce.

The City of Santa Fe is also reaffirming its commitment to supporting the recruitment, hiring, retention and advancement of individuals with disabilities and ensuring equal opportunity to participate in the workforce.
