Department of Justice Press Releases | Date Posted: Thursday, January 9, 2025

A Delaware City man has been sentenced for the brutal assault and murder of his father in 2023. On December 13, Allan Henderson Jr., 38, was sentenced to life plus two years in prison for convictions of Murder 2nd Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony in New Castle County Superior Court. The sentence follows an investigation into the January 2023 fatal stabbing of Allan Henderson Sr., who was 75.
"This case was chilling and heart-wrenching," said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. "In the wake of such a devastating loss, I am profoundly grateful to the prosecutors and law enforcement whose hard work and dedication removed this violent criminal from the streets before he could continue the path of brutality he so evidently planned to carry out. Our communities are that much safer for your service."
On January 25, 2023, Henderson Jr. was arrested at the home of the victim, Henderson Sr., in Newark, Delaware, where the victim's body was found stabbed dozens of times and left to bleed out. Investigators additionally found a variety of weapons, including knives and guns stolen from the victim, as well as multiple hand-written notes and videos made by the defendant detailing plans to kill his father, steal his guns and kill an ex-romantic partner along with several others who shared the residence.
