SAN DIEGO - Caltrans will close the westbound sidewalk on the Mission Ave overpass of Interstate 5 (I-5) in the city of Oceanside beginning Monday, July 6, at 6 a.m. This closure is part of a joint project by Caltrans District 11 and the City of Oceanside to realign and upgrade the I-5/Mission Avenue interchange. The closure is expected to continue until September 28th.
Starting July 6, pedestrians will be detoured to the eastbound Mission Ave sidewalk instead of the westbound sidewalk between San Diego St and Pirates Cove due to ADA improvements.
The Interstate 5 Accessibility Improvements Project Oceanside and Carlsbad (Americans with Disabilities Act Program) is an $8.6 million project that includes updates to ADA curb ramps, ramp reconfigurations, and enhancements for pedestrian safety.
Motorists are reminded to be Work Zone Alert if traveling in the area and to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment.
The work schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other work-related reasons.
