Entry into force of the Italy–Holy See Agreement on an agrivoltaic plant in Santa Maria di Galeria

The Agreement between the Italian Republic and the Holy See for the construction of an agrivoltaic plant on land owned by the Holy See in Santa Maria di Galeria (Rome) entered into force yesterday, 27 May.

The Agreement, signed on 31 July by the Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See, Francesco Di Nitto, and the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations of the Holy See, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, entered into force following the completion of the necessary internal procedures by both Parties.

The agreement represents a concrete example of cooperation between Italy and the Holy See in promoting environmental sustainability and combating climate change, through initiatives aimed at fostering the energy transition and the development of renewable energy sources. The agrivoltaic plant project combines technological innovation, clean energy production and the enhancement of the territory, confirming the shared commitment of the Parties to sustainable and responsible development models.
