Cortez Masto Voted Today on a War Powers Resolution to Force Trump to Consult Congress Before Further Military Actions in Iran
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after voting to support Senator Tim Kaine's (D-Va.) war powers resolution, which would have limited the Trump Administration's ability to take further military action against Iran without a debate and a vote in Congress. Senate Republicans blocked this resolution from passing.
"The brutal dictator Ayatollah Khamenei and his regime oppressed Iran for decades and sponsored terror across the region. I am hopeful his death presents an opportunity for the people of Iran to create a better future for themselves. However, the Trump Administration spending over $1 billion already on a foreign war of choice while cutting Medicaid and closing rural hospitals at home is reckless," said Senator Cortez Masto. "President Trump should not be bypassing Congress and the American public to spend our tax dollars and sacrifice American lives on a war with no clear objective, end game, or exit plan."
