Early Morning Fire Destroys Skyway Café

At 4:41 a.m., Engine 8 was dispatched to the Skyway Café at 6105 East Rutter Avenue for a reported kitchen appliance fire. Crews arrived six minutes later to find flames from the grease vent and upgraded the response to a working commercial fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze but found extensive fire damage in the kitchen and heavy smoke damage throughout the rest of the business.
The fire investigation could not determine a cause, though no suspicious activity was noted. Damage is estimated at over $400,000, primarily affecting the business's contents. No injuries were reported.
