International cooperation in effective law enforcement is of tremendous importance, especially in a region like the Balkans - a nest of turbulence and challenges but also a place of great opportunities. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at the opening of the Fourth Forum of Prosecutors General of the Balkan States, held in Sofia. The mission of the Forum is to strengthen good cooperation between and among prosecutors from the Balkan Peninsula in criminal law matters, the prevention and the countering of transnational organized crime, of the trafficking in drugs and weapons and of illicit migration.

Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov underscored the role of multilateral cooperation in, inter alia, effective law enforcement to achieve sustainable development, protect democracy and human rights and uphold the rule of law. This is the only precondition to deter, prevent and effectively counter unlawful doings, Rossen Jeliazkov said further. The Prime Minister noted the excellent cooperation between Bulgaria and Türkiye in countering illicit migration. Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov congratulated the representatives from the Western Balkans, in particular from Albania and Kosovo, as he recognized their efforts in the fight against organized crime. The Prime Minister pointed out that action to that effect is important both for the region and for all Europe.

Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov put stress on cybercrime and the need to parry attempts at the cyber modelling of public relations as it is the Balkans that are currently subjected to the strongest hybrid impact.
