2025 Recap: Photos of State Rep. Kevin Schmidt in District 114
I look forward to begin 2026 with a positive outlook for the State of Illinois. We can do more to lower the cost of living in our state, and my priority remains to provide relief to my constituents in the 114th District. Check out the photos from 2025!
Illinois state spending balloons as state economy stagnates
Pritzker's administration has enacted at least 49 tax hikes since 2019. If our state is serious about lowering the cost of living and creating opportunities, we must put an end to taxing our way out of problems. Red more from Illinois Policy.
Families and businesses need relief and I will continue fighting for common sense policies that help Illinoisans, not drag them down.
New Laws
The Illinois "Squatter Bill" will make it easier for police to remove squatters from someone's home, bypassing a possibly months-long eviction process. I voted yes to SB1563 because people need to be protected from squatters. Learn more about new laws that are in effect for this year here.
How to File a Witness Slip
Witness slips are a vital piece of the legislative process. Before a bill is heard in committee, the chairperson will read who has submitted witness slips and whether they support or oppose the bill. This helps inform me and other legislators as to where Illinoisans and organizations stand, allowing us to make informed decisions when voting. As we begin session this month, please take time to learn how you can file a witness slip on a bill by watching a quick video below or by visiting this link.
Schmidt Files Legislation to Adopt Sales Tax Holiday
I filed House Bill 4252 in an effort to provide families with financial relief as the new school year begins. The cost of school supplies add up quickly and my bill will help lower the total cost of supplies that our children need for their education. It's important we take action to lower the costs of essentials for families in Illinois and my bill is one way we can help families save money on expensive school supplies.
Department of Justice challenges new Illinois law barring federal immigration actions at courthouses
Governor Pritzker and Illinois Democrats welcomed illegal immigrants to Illinois with open arms. Now, they want to make it even harder for immigration authorities to do their jobs. Recently, the DOJ sued the governor over a new state law limiting immigration enforcement in Illinois.
The law, signed by Gov. JB Pritzker, bars immigration enforcement from courthouses and opens the door for easier legal action against federal agents over alleged civil rights infractions. Read more…
Nominate a Business to Be Recognized!
I strongly encourage individuals or organizations to nominate their favorite business in the 114th District to be recognized as the Business of the Month! Our local businesses help keep our economy moving and they deserve to be recognized.
