The City of Alexandria, in cooperation with WMATA and DASH, will perform maintenance work operations on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes on Richmond Highway/Route 1 between Swann Avenue and Glebe Road beginning Monday, May 11 through Monday, May 25. There will be limited to no impact on single-occupancy vehicles, but drivers should anticipate some delays in the work area as buses are routed into regular travel lanes.
During this time, the BRT lanes will be closed to traffic and bus stops will temporarily be relocated to the regular travel lanes on Richmond Highway/Route 1. Signs will be posted at the temporary bus stop locations through the construction period.
Operations will include replacing sections of damage pavement and are part of a broader effort to improve BRT service and improve local and regional public transit connections in the City of Alexandria. Residents, commuters, and travelers are encouraged to share the road safely in active work zones and with temporary bus traffic in regular travel lanes.
