Governor Mills Directs Flags Lowered on Sunday in Honor of Three Year Anniversary of Lewiston Tragedy

Augusta, MAINE - Governor Janet Mills has ordered that the United States and State of Maine flags be lowered to half-staff statewide from sunrise until sunset on Sunday, October 25, 2026, in remembrance of the victims and survivors of the tragedy in Lewiston.

Tomorrow marks three years since the mass shootings at Just-In-Time Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grille in Lewiston that took the lives of eighteen individuals and injured many others.

The Governor issued the following statement:

"On Sunday we remember and honor the eighteen people who were taken from us on Maine's darkest day. We keep in our hearts the loved ones they left behind, and we offer our deepest gratitude for the heroes and first responders who saved countless lives," said Governor Mills. "As we pause to remember those we lost, may we find strength in remembering the outpouring of love and support that Maine people showed for one another - from everyday acts of kindness to the sea of blue hearts in store windows that conveyed our love for our Lewiston neighbors. Three years later, we will never forget the hard moments, and we will always remember the humanity and compassion that Maine people found in one another. Hug your loved ones and keep in your hearts those who are no longer able to hold in their arms those who perished."
