PHILADELPHIA, PA - CTIBIOTECH, a French bioengineering company, today announced the establishment of a North American headquarters in Greater Philadelphia at BioLabs Philadelphia, a premier shared life sciences laboratory facility. The company projects the creation of 35 specialized biotech jobs in the region within three to five years.
CTI is a pioneer in human tissue bioassays, using stem cells and discarded medical tissues to engineer 3D-printed human skin and other organs for pharmaceutical and therapeutics testing. The company's work has the potential to meaningfully accelerate drug development and reduce reliance on traditional animal testing, representing significant advancement for the pharmaceutical and therapeutics industries.
Greater Philadelphia is the fourth-ranked U.S. life sciences market, home to more than 5,000 biotech workers, an eightfold increase over the past decade. CTIBIOTECH's arrival adds to that momentum, bringing a category-defining technology to a region already recognized as a global hub for life sciences innovation.
"Philadelphia has one of the most dynamic and collaborative life sciences ecosystems in the world, and CTIBIOTECH is exactly the kind of company that will thrive here," said Lindsey Hover, Manager of Business Attraction & Expansion of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. "This win is the result of years of investment in international relationships and a regional ecosystem that is second to none, and we are proud to have guided CTIBIOTECH every step of the way."
CTIBIOTECH's selection of Greater Philadelphia was the result of a rigorous evaluation process. The region's academic medical infrastructure, collaborative biotech ecosystem, and existing relationships proved decisive.
"CTIBIOTECH's decision to establish their first North American presence in Pennsylvania is a testament to the strength of our life sciences ecosystem and the effectiveness of our international investment strategy," said Rick Siger, Secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. "Economic development is a team sport, and the Shapiro Administration's BusinessPA professionals worked closely with the company and the Chamber to bring them to Philadelphia. We look forward to watching them contribute to the innovation that makes Pennsylvania a global leader in life sciences."
The Chamber connected CTIBIOTECH's decision-makers with research partners, cold storage providers, legal counsel, accounting services, and real estate options, helping the company to develop significant business relationships in the region.
"Greater Philadelphia offered us something rare, a world-class scientific community inside a city that felt like home from the moment we arrived," said Dr. Nico Forraz, CEO of CTI Biotech. "The connections we have made here, and the partnership opportunities with world-class medical and academic centers, have already demonstrated the extraordinary potential of this region for our work. We are proud to be building our North American future in Philadelphia."
"CTIBIOTECH's decision to establish a presence in Philadelphia reflects the city's strength as a hub for life sciences talent, research, and investment. CTIBIOTECH's cutting-edge design of human tissues is innovative and very synergistic with the mission of our research and development community. Philadelphia offers an unmatched environment for collaboration and discovery. By building here, they are not only advancing our own growth, but they are also creating high-quality jobs, partnering with leading institutions, and contributing to a broader ecosystem that drives innovation and economic development across the region," said Rebecca Grant, Senior Director of Life Sciences & Innovation of the City of Philadelphia.
