New Reporter on Data Journalism Team

We're excited to announce that Matt Zdun has joined the Data Journalism team as a data reporter. Matt will collaborate with the Washington bureau and Politics team to cover the federal government and political campaigns, and will be based in New York.

Previously, Matt worked as a data reporter at The Houston Chronicle, where he collaborated closely with colleagues to cover state politics, elections and immigration. He developed the methodologies for many of The Chronicle's political data tools, including its campaign finance profiles and legislative bill trackers , analyzed Gov. Greg Abbott's immigration rhetoric and investigated local governments' use of border security funds .

Before The Chronicle, Matt covered politics and policy at The Texas Tribune, The Austin American-Statesman and KWTX, a television station in central Texas. He earned a master's degree in data science from the University of Missouri, where he worked with a team of researchers to identify the state's news deserts using machine learning methods. Matt also earned degrees in journalism and economics from Northwestern University.

Please join me in welcoming him.
