He developed the methodologies for many of The Chronicle's political data tools, including its campaign finance profiles and legislative bill trackers , analyzed Gov. Greg Abbott's immigration rhetoric and investigated local governments' use of border security funds .
Before The Chronicle, Matt covered politics and policy at The Texas Tribune, The Austin American-Statesman and KWTX, a television station in central Texas. He earned a master's degree in data science from the University of Missouri, where he worked with a team of researchers to identify the state's news deserts using machine learning methods. Matt also earned degrees in journalism and economics from Northwestern University.
Please join me in welcoming him.
