I welcome the unified and responsible decision of the Defence and Security Council regarding the appointment of the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro. This decision demonstrates responsible and mature governance and a clear commitment to stability and reform within the defence sector.
From Minister Krapović and the newly appointed Chief of the General Staff, I expect determined and uncompromising implementation of the long-awaited vetting process within the Armed Forces of Montenegro. As we have already demonstrated in other security sectors - the services must be uncompromised. The Armed Forces of Montenegro must be composed of honorable individuals, not those with questionable affiliations. The institutions of this state can no longer serve as a refuge, but as a stronghold against any form of undue influence.
We must preserve valuable experience and true professionals, motivate young people with fresh energy to become part of the system, and cleanse the system of all compromised personnel and unauthorized influences. This is the formula for reform that builds strong institutions - and only strong institutions can safeguard the state and its future.
