The published calendars reflect the auctioning of 50 million allowances for the Social Climate Fund (SCF), of which 10 million allowances originally auctioned and allocated to Member States.
Following the adoption in March of the amended European Climate Law (ECL) the operations of emissions trading for buildings, road transport and additional sectors (ETS2 allowances) have been postponed by one year. Another provision included in the revised ECL was the application in 2026 of Article 10a(8b) of the ETS Directive, providing for the auctioning of 50 million allowances allocated to the SCF.
The revised calendars will start taking place in June. Auctions by the common auction platform will continue to take place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Auctions by Germany are held weekly on Fridays while auctions on behalf of Poland are scheduled bi-weekly on Wednesdays.
Since 1 January 2021, the EU ETS Directive continues to apply to and in the UK with respect to the generation of electricity in Northern Ireland. In accordance with the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland (the 'Windsor Framework'), the UK will auction a volume of allowances corresponding to its share in the Union-wide cap. One auction for Northern Ireland will take place on 7 October 2026.
The auction calendars consist of the auction volumes for all Member States, the Innovation Fund, the Modernisation Fund, the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the Social Climate Fund.
The 2026 auction calendars can be subject to further adjustments for the period September to December to reflect the operations of the Market Stability Reserve. Furthermore, the auctioning of allowances allocated to the Recovery and Resilience Facility will stop once the revenue targets for this Facility are reached, at the latest on 31 August.
The 2026 auction volumes are calculated in accordance with the previously published:
